How to Decrease a Stitch - Crochet Tutorial

Tutorial Overview

Patterns often require reducing the number of stitches in a row, particularly amigurumi patterns. In this video we will show you how to decrease a stitch with double crochet.

Step-by-step guide

  1. To decrease a double crochet stitch, insert your hook into the next stitch.

  2. Yarn over and pull through but do not complete the stitch yet.

  3. Now insert your hook into the next stitch and yarn over and pull through.

  4. You now want to go through all three stitches by yarn over and pulling through all the loops on your hook.

  5. You’ve now decreased 2 stitches into 1.

And that’s how you decrease a stitch in crochet!
