How To Knit Jute Stitch
Jute stitch is a simple one, made up of knits, purls, and slipped stitches, repeated over two rows. I love that this stitch pattern is easy to memorise, while also achieving a gorgeous texture!
This technique is used in some of my free Natural Spring Collection knitting patterns.
The Pattern
To make the jute stitch, cast on an odd number of stitches, and repeat these two rows until you reach your desired length:
1st row: *Purl 1, slip 1 as if to purl with yarn in front. Repeat from * to the end of the row.
2nd row: *Knit 1, purl 1. Repeat from * to the end of the row.
Let’s break that down into steps!
To begin
Cast on an odd number of stitches.
We’ll now follow the pattern for the 1st row.
Step 1
Purl the first stitch.
Step 2
Slip the next stitch as if to purl, with yarn in front.
Repeat these 2 steps for the rest of the row.
Now we’ll begin the 2nd row.
Step 1
Knit a stitch.
Step 2
Purl the next stitch.
Repeat these 2 steps for the rest of the row.
And there you have it!
