Abbreviations (US Terminology)
st - Stitch
sc - Single crochet (UK double crochet)
ch - Chain
ch-sp - Chain space
Make a foundation chain with an even number of chain stitches, and work as follows:
1st row: Insert hook in second ch from hook, yarn over, draw a loop through, insert hook in next ch, yarn over, draw a loop through (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops, yarn over, draw through last 2 loops, ch1.
1st row continued: *Insert hook in next ch, yarn over, draw a loop through, insert hook in next ch, yarn over, draw a loop through (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 2 loops, yarn over, draw through last 2 loops, ch1 * rep between * and * to last st, 1sc in last st, turn.
Next steps: When working the decrease st from Row 2 onwards, you will be inserting your hook before the vertical loop first, then after the vertical loop, to make the stitch.
2nd row: ch1 (doesn’t count as a st), *Insert hook in next st (insert before vertical line) yarn over, draw a loop through, insert hook in next st, (insert hook after vertical line) yarn over, draw a loop through.
2nd row continued: With 3 loops on hook, yarn over and draw through 2 loops, yarn over, draw through last 2 loops, ch1 * Repeat the instructions between * and * to last st, 1sc in last st, turn.
Repeat 2nd row for as many as your pattern requires.
